Miwa Komatsu at the Sacra di San Michele: Live Painting Where Art Meets Spirituality

As part of the celebrations marking the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Japan, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 6:00 PM, the Sacra di San Michele will host a live painting performance by Japanese artist Miwa Komatsu.

The event marks the second stop of an international project dedicated to the sacred sites of Saint Michael—following Mont-Saint-Michel and preceding the Sanctuary of Saint Michael the Archangel in Monte Sant'Angelo—celebrating the cultural dialogue between Italy and Japan through contemporary art and spirituality.

The performance, moderated by Prof. Paolo Linetti, Director of the Mazzocchi Museum of Oriental Art, will conclude with the donation of the completed work to the Sacra di San Michele, as a permanent testament to this encounter between cultures.

The initiative is held under the patronage of the Sacra di San Michele, the Consulate General of Japan in Milan, the Italy-Japan Foundation, the Municipalities of Sant'Ambrogio di Torino and Chiusa di San Michele, and the Mazzocchi Museum of Oriental Art in Coccaglio. Admission is free and open to the public.

入り口には県出身の画家東郷青児が描いた大作を展示

ロビーには現代アーティスト小松美羽さんが神獣をモチーフにした「阿吽（あうん）」など３枚の絵画がガラスケースに入り、

千住博さんの版画も飾られる。リハビリ室前にも桜島を描いた作品など３枚が並ぶ。

鉾之原健太郎副理事長（３６）は「絵を見てエネルギーをもらえるという声を聞くようになった。観覧だけでも歓迎」と呼びかける。
同病院は昨年１２月１日、同市市比野から現在地に移転、開院した。

「文化の日」の３日、世界遺産の島・宮島は、多くの人で賑わった。特に、大規模な修復を終えた「大鳥居」の工事用通路の一般開放は、間近で見られるとあって大人気だ。

岸から伸びるおよそ１００メートルの通路を渡ると、装いを新たにした宮島・朱の大鳥居が迫る。３年半に及ぶ修復を終えた大鳥居…。その姿を、海の上から間近に見ることが出来るとあって、見学開始前からおよそ２００人が列を作った。高さ３メートルの足場から見る鳥居や、神社の名を記した「扁額」は、何時もと違う風情を感じさせる。

通路の一般公開は今月２７日までで、正午までの受け付けだ。

こま犬をモチーフにした、巨大な絵画…。厳島神社の本殿に奉納されたのは、現代アーティスト小松美羽さんの作品だ。小松さんは大鳥居の修復を記念し、先月即興製作を披露する「ライブペインティング」に取り組んだ。作品は、今月６日の日曜日まで展示されている。
